Master Bathroom Makeover

We have put the finishing touches on our master bathroom & we are finally ready to show you!

Here's what we did:
-renovated the shower
-changed faucets
-switched out light fixture
-framed existing mirror above vanity
-added a towel ring
-painted walls
-added curtains
-made 2 DIY art pieces
-accessorized
Now for the before & afters!

shaving shelf:

Mel also made some DIY canvas art- She stuck some craft snow on the canvas to give it texture.  Then she painted using acrylic paints & a spray bottle of water:

Mel found some small glass jars from Target in the kitchen section.  They are the perfect size for bath salts & scrubs:

We used baskets filled with sponges & washcloths to fill the space.  A small apothecary jar holds Epsom salt:

DIY art #2- all we had to do was replace the existing scrapbook paper with a new design:

We think our makeover is a good example of how homeowners can update their bath without doing a complete overhaul!

  1. Your bathroom turned out beautifully! I love everything you've done to the room, including the creative artwork.

  2. The simple DIY work you did transformed the bathroom and made it look much more stylish! Changing the shower wall into a glass pane is an elegant idea. Now the shower room is much brighter – in fact, the whole bathroom is brighter! Also, I like the black frame you went with for the mirror. It kind of made the mirror pop and stand out even more. I also like the apothecary jars you added! They look quite fancy!

  3. Dark wood seems to be the trend nowadays, and I just love how you paired it with a white and glass bathroom. Everything looks bright and elegant! The glass jars also added a personal and classy touch. This is a great example of a DIY project that looks professionally done. Congratulations on finishing it!

  4. Cutting the wall half between the tub and shower area allows more light to the shower. The glass wall is the one that made such a big difference in the bathroom. And the new vanity mirror gave the room a bolder look. It's maybe because of the frame of the mirror. This is a well done makeover! -Majestic Exteriors

  5. How did you frame the mirror?

    1. Hi Lynn,

We used a baseboard moulding from Home Depot that came in an espresso finish. We cut the corners at a 45 degree angle & then glued the moulding right onto the mirror. We used a clear adhesive (I can't remember which kind) & made sure it wasn't too close to the edge of the moulding - because otherwise you can see the reflection of the adhesive in the mirror. Then we filled in the corner joints with wood putty because the fit was not quite perfect...and that was it!

Hope that helps & let me know if you try it!

  6. My fiance and I are modeling our master bathroom vanity/mirror after yours! Also, in the future, your gorgeous shower! Its exactly what I had imagined for ours before I even found your blog! Where did you find your light fixture and does it come in 4 lamps rather than 3?

    1. Hey Chelsea! That's so awesome! You'll have to post some photos when you guys are all done - we would love to see it!

We bought the light fixture from Lowe's back in 2011. There were actually two of them on the clearance shelf for like $30 - so we bought both & put the 2nd one in our guest bathroom. It was so long ago, but I'm pretty sure they were on clearance because they were discontinuing it.

But...it looks like Lowe's has some similar styles with the 4 lamps you're looking for. Here's a couple that I saw:

  7. Beautiful shower! Did you have to have the frameless shower door & panels custom made? It looks great!

    1. Thanks Julie! Yes - we did have them custom made for the shower. We hired a local family owned company - they did a great job! Thanks again!
